“Mechanism for providing post-course methodological support to participants, provided by regional trainers” webinar
Since 2020, in order to train teachers of general education disciplines of technical and vocational education organizations (TVE) for work on programs of updated content of secondary education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Center of Excellence has trained regional trainers from among the teachers-leaders of TVE organizations. The training of trainers is based on cascade training, which involves the transfer of knowledge and control over their assimilation along the chain from top to bottom: from the trainer to the teachers, and then to the students. In order to provide methodological assistance to regional trainers, a mechanism for teachers’ post-course support has been developed. The main goal of post-course support is to provide timely methodological assistance to TVE teachers on the implementation of the updated content of education.
On August 26, 2020, as part of the provision of methodological support to regional TVE trainers, the Center of Excellence trainers Zhanna Baygarinova, Lyudmila Cherenkova, Zhainagul Dzhansugirova and Gaukhar Tuyakbaeva held a webinar “Mechanism for providing post-course methodological support to participants, provided by regional trainers”. A total of 386 regional trainers participated in the webinar.
The objective of the webinar: to determine the algorithm for conducting post-course support. The work of the regional trainer was based on Egan's “experienced assistant” model, which covers all aspects of post-course support. The webinar consisted of two parts: theoretical and practical. In the first part, instructions were given on specific steps of the trainer in the post-course period, and in the practical part, the participants, working in the session rooms, discussed the functions of a regional trainer and, based on the knowledge and experience gained, compiled a Memo for a regional trainer, taking into account his main functions.
The webinar participants outlined specific steps to establish communications, determine the needs of their students, plan and analyze lessons and feedback.
The work of the webinar had a practical focus. In addition to developing an algorithm for post-course support, participants received resources as help.
At the end of the webinar, an online survey was conducted on the readiness of regional trainers to work. Most of the participants answered that they are ready to provide methodological assistance to their wards. However, they noted that they need support from more experienced trainers.
The Center of Excellence will continue a series of webinars on methodological support for regional trainers in the new academic year.
